Spirit of K-Tech Returns as Holbrook

Wheeling, Illinois (June 2004) - In 1998, the owners of K-Tech Mfg. sold their very successful fastener company to Mascotech Inc., a large publicly held company in the fastener industry. They had been serving the domestic market for over 10 years experiencing double digit annual growth year after year. Their aim was to continue this growth aided by the strong financial muscle of Mascotech. After 3 years of harsh cost cutting, plant closings, layoffs and corporate consolidations, the former owners of K-Tech had left the company with the realization that bigger is not always better.

The former owners of K-Tech have now started Holbrook Mfg. "We wanted to re-create a QS-9000 company that has all the capability of a large manufacturer but the talent and responsiveness of an experienced owner operated shop" said Don Kuhns, CEO. Experienced is right! The company boasts 50 employees who each have, on average, over 20 years of experience in the fastener industry.

Holbrook offers a myriad of proprietary products including: Torx®, TorxPlus®, Taptite®, Plastite®, Remform®, ACR Phillips®, Phillips Square-Driv®, Phillips Mortorq Spiral Drive System® and SEMS and a host of others. "Our array of products is exceptional but our real emphasis is on product quality and communication with customers" said Brad Yerkes, VP of Sales. "When we serve a customer once, they always come back."

Holbrook occupies an 80,000 square foot state of the art facility in Wheeling, IL with over 40 single and multi-die cold headers along with automatic screw machines, shavers and drillers. The company boasts a significant inventory of stock and special tooling complemented by a top of the line tool room with wire EDM capability. "With our array of machines and experienced people, there is very little that we can't do to solve a customer's technical problem or meet their need" said Bill Collopy, Executive VP of Operations and a former owner of K-Tech.

Holbrook operates a fully wireless distribution center that provides real time bar coded inventory with complete lot traceability and fully automated packaging lines. "Our warehouse system insures that we ship the correct product on time and in the manner our customer dictates" said Gary Vanderpoel, President and a former owner of K-Tech. "It also permits us to import parts and offer customers the peace of mind that if import channels get disrupted, our manufacturing ability will assure our customers a continuous supply of product."
